Room II · The Quiet Room

Elvenar

A fantasy city, Elf or Human, in which no other player can ever attack. The best-kept work in the wing and the most generous to visitors who never pay.

Curator's note

The quiet room is named for the piece. Elvenar removes the one thing that makes most of the genre anxious: other players can't attack your city, ever. Expansion happens across a map of provinces won by negotiation or by the game's own encounters, and the neighbours are trading partners. You enter the room to build, not to check for damage.

It is also the most beautiful work in the collection. Buildings are hand-drawn and animated, and the Elf and Human versions of the same structure are properly different, so the choice at the entrance is a real one. Weekly tournaments and the occasional Fellowship Adventure give the cooperative side a rhythm without demanding attendance at a set hour.

The report notes a slow opening. The first week is long research timers and a map that takes its time; the piece settles by day five and stays settled. Late on, fitting buildings into the grid becomes a puzzle some visitors don't want.
