Curator's note
Hung at the end of the long gallery because it needs the distance. Forge of Empires is a city-builder that keeps unfolding: huts to cathedrals to factories to orbital habitats, each era with its own buildings, goods and units, and the collection has nothing else with that much horizon.
Look closely at the small hex battlefield and the piece rewards you. Past the early ages the fights turn on position and counters rather than numbers, and the Great Buildings, guild expeditions and events arrange themselves into a daily programme. The guild scene is the social core of the work and still active on every server we visited.
The condition report notes one weakness. From the Late Middle Ages the piece slows, and visitors who neither join a guild nor spend on diamonds will feel it. The events overlap, each with a paid tier. None of it damages the work; it simply asks for patience.
Strengths
- A progression arc measured in months
- Battles that reward thinking in the later ages
- One account across browser, phone and tablet
- Guilds with a weekly programme
Wear
- Mid-game slowdown from the Late Middle Ages
- Overlapping events with paid tiers
- Tight city space that nudges toward diamonds
